Overview
John Wilkins is a real estate transactional attorney in the firm’s Los Angeles office. He represents buyers, sellers, investors, developers, borrowers, lenders and operators in a wide array of complex real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, financing, joint ventures, preferred equity, and securities offerings.
John has comprehensive experience across various asset classes, including office, medical, industrial, retail, and multifamily and residential housing projects. He is skilled at structuring and negotiating purchase agreements, drafting loan documents, and conducting due diligence for numerous real estate transactions.
He received his J.D. from the UCLA School of Law, where he served as the Submissions Editor for the Environmental Law Review. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in Spanish from UCLA. During his undergraduate years, John was a member of the UCLA Men’s NCAA Water Polo team.
Experience
Represented an institutional investor in the acquisition and subsequent $360 million debt financing of over 50 industrial storage facilities consisting of 3.9 million square feet across 16 different U.S. states.
Represented institutional investors in the disposition of a golf course, which was to be ultimately converted into a housing development. John worked closely with the acquisition team to structure the transaction so that half of the overall purchase price was paid at closing, with the balance to follow such that the seller received a percentage of the purchase price buyer for each house ultimately sold after construction.
Represented a global REIT as a JV partner in the acquisition and financing of five different single-family housing communities consisting of 400+ homes and 682,805 square feet across four U.S. states, requiring seven separate closings over a ten-month period.
Represented multiple high-net-worth individuals as preferred equity investors in the formation of various joint ventures for the development of luxury residential properties. John negotiated the preferred equity joint venture agreements and structured the financing to meet the clients’ investment objectives.
