Redevelopment Agencies Garner Little Sympathy
The Daily Journal reported on Nov. 11 about the California Supreme Court's oral arguments over the state's redevelopment agencies. In that article, the publication quoted Stephen Ryan, a partner at Cox Castle & Nicholson in San Francisco who represents affordable housing groups that participate in redevelopment efforts. Ryan, who watched the hearing, said he thought the justices identified the weak points in each side's arguments. He added that even if the justices ruled against the agencies' challenge, the agencies would suffer a blow but perhaps not a permanent one.
"Nothing would stop the legislature from attempting a new fix next year or creating a funding mechanism for development," Ryan said.
