Cox, Castle & Nicholson Names Erik Loomis As A Partner of the Firm

Los Angeles – (January 14, 2014)Cox Castle & Nicholson, one of the largest full-service law firms focused on real estate in the United States, announces the election of Erik Loomis as a partner of the Firm. Mr. Loomis is a member of the firm's Tax & Estate Planning practice and practices out of the firm’s Los Angeles office. His election brings the number of partners at the firm to 76.

Erik Loomis specializes in Federal and California income tax planning for individuals and entities and their investments in real estate. His particular interest is on the concepts and treatments that apply in the context of joint ventures, acquisitions, dispositions, workouts, and tax-deferred exchanges. Mr. Loomis also has expertise in the application of California's real property tax laws and, in addition to assessment matters, he is also consulted with respect to applying the increasingly important local variants of the California documentary transfer tax, both in structuring transactions to avoid imposition of the tax, and also to minimize its impact. In addition to his transactional practice, Mr. Loomis served as tax counsel in a number of major Federal and California income tax litigation matters. He regularly represents taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service, the California Franchise Tax Board, the California State Board of Equalization and local assessment tribunals.

Mr. Loomis is a 2004 graduate of the University of California, Davis School of Law and earned his LL.M. from New York University School of Law in 2006. Prior to law school, he worked in the land development industry in various positions in Hawaii, Washington and Oregon.
